Marburae Art Gallery has teamed up with Cheshire Open Studios to become their host for the 16th annual central exhibition, showcasing local talent from across Cheshire.
This free event combines 3 weekends of open studios across the Cheshire region alongside one central exhibition, featuring an absorbing collection of works from over 40 Cheshire based artists.
Cheshire Open Studios is celebrating its 16th Year, making it one of the most established art trails in the North West.
Kaite, curator of Marburae Art Gallery states "We at Marburae Gallery
feel it is important to support local arts and showcase local work as well as
national and international work. This exhibition puts us right at the heart of
the Cheshire Art scene. It is brilliant to bring the centre of an established
Cheshire based project to Macclesfield as it will bring people from across the
region to showcase their work and view art in our town"
The Cheshire Open Studios exhibition open evening will take place at 7.00pm - 9.30pm on 18th April 2013. The exhibition will run from 19th April until 18th May 2013. For more information please visit www.artinmacclesfield.co.uk or follow the gallery on Twitter @artinmacc.
Marburae Art Gallery is a new space in Macclesfield dedicated to national and international contemporary visual Arts.
About Cheshire Open Studios in their own words...
Cheshire Open Studios is an exciting and successful free annual event that has taken place annually in Cheshire for fifteen years. During this time between 40-80 artists and craft makers open their studios each year, either as individuals or in-groups, over 3-4 weekends.
In 2013 Cheshire Open Studios is celebrating 16 years of Open Studios!
Every year we are looking at ways to make this a very special event for our participants and visitors with interactive, fun and inspiring events across Cheshire. This year the event is spread over 4 weekends in May / June (to be confirmed after 1st March) with an exhibition at Marburae Art Gallery in Macclesfield which will run from 18th April to 18th May. There is also a secondary open studios event in September.
For this year we are holding the exhibition as an open exhibition for Cheshire-based professional artists i.e. artists can participate in our exhibition without having to open their studios to the public.
This initiative supports professional visual artists and craft makers who often work in isolation; enabling networking and mutual support.
The project addresses the lack of contemporary galleries within Cheshire by promoting artists in their own spaces and encouraging new opportunities for residencies, commissions, selling, exhibiting and teaching.
We would be pleased to see more participation by experimental or conceptual artists and recent graduates whom receive a 25% discount off the membership fees.
There is no longer a selection process for participants of Cheshire Open Studios however all participating artists must be professional or semi-professional artist living and working in Cheshire with an ongoing portfolio of work. The exhibition venue may also have its own selection procedure.
The open studios event is a unique chance to meet local professional artists, to discover how and where they produce their work and provides the opportunity to buy from them directly at reasonable prices!
Cheshire county has been divided into a number of areas giving visitors the opportunity to visit several local studios in one day over the course of 3 or 4 weekends.
Cheshire Open Studios is a self-funding, not-for-profit, artist led project, run by a voluntary steering group and project coordinator. Many of the artists are also members of the Cheshire Artists Network.
So we hope you will join the Cheshire Open Studio Art Trail fun this year by following the Yellow signs that clearly mark each studio location!
